this was roni size & dj die's poppy sideproject, if you want to look at it cynicly, it was a way for the full cycle boys to get paid. this kind of clean cut drum & bass songs with female vocals beyond the jungle style of wailing a few pieces would continue with in 2001 with decoder & substance's kosheen project. anyhow i quite like this track, drums are good, bassline is a sleek one and leoeni laws does good on the mic.

like two years ago or so mate of mine had this cd he bought for a banco de gaia remix of midival punditz and he sent over that and this and i liked it but it wasn't until the summer when it was somewhat hot and i was out walking and just listening to random stuff in the mp3player and right when this came on it started to rain lightly but it was this weird feeling about the cosmos being very synced up.

discovered this after hearing norah on wax poetic's angels, mate of mine told me once that the bass in the intro was not made from a bass, but from a guitar since charlie hunter use this 8string thing and the lowest string is almost bass like. found that hard to believe but i guess it's true, good song anyhow, the sax solo is nice and moody.

if you pop this record on and you get the feeling that it's pissed over something, then that's just bullshit. essentially, this one is just a very driving beat and a white noise sample lightly getting tweaked and modulated over the course of the track. bangalter a very subtle pad in the first half and then also subtle boosting the bass frequencies in the second half. pure brilliance really

play this to any fan of modern house music and you will undoubtedly get the response of this is where nick holder got the sample for 'summer daze'. he took some loops from the beginning and reshaped it into his thing. the original packs some swelling grooves and a killer guitar solo and the the humming of the melody.

the original is this mellow dark downtempo affair with jazz drums and big spooky strings, bent regrooves a bit, emphasising the original bassline a bit more and rocks this mellow drumgroove and then adds nice acidy bits. well done remix on this one

i remember first hearing this and it was the sade sample that got me hooked. the use of 'feel no pain' is extraordinary, the sparse instrumental give a great backdrop for krayzie bone whose flow is bananas like usual. the trademarked temposwitches is employed well on this and his singing is nicely done aswell

this is from the first album and it's a straight up westcoast cut. godde works the first part of the track with a nate dogg like swagger and dogge goes on the romance tip but still working the playful stees that he always had in the first album.

fever was a nice soulful d&b cut by gerald simpson and vocals by wendy page, gerald handed the material over to sheffield technolegends black dog for rework and creates a track that gives the original a serious run for it's money. they did so by cutting the tempo down to half and giving the track a soul makeover, it was not that much of a slam dunk to do so but it's simplicity and how they used wendy's vocals & gerald's melodies and giving them bigger emphasis is amazing.

with the might of the majors, there is no escaping this welsh blonde and her watered down oldtimesounding tracks. mark ronson is to blame for this, even though he had nothing to do with duffy. when i didn't know who this track was by, i thought it was norah jones with a touch of helium. it is good to be honest until the hook, where Norah goes out the window and you hear the characteristic whinyness of fuddy.

most would know of 'freak' mark bell's 2000 technobanger, well this was the b-side and as the a-side, you have lunacy. basicly you have a distorted groove and a offbeat lead that goes through countless alterations in sound through out the 5minutes. my favourite part is halfway in where it goes smooth detroity for some bars and then goes back into the hard distorted groove.

i can't remember when i first heard this or where, all i know it was that the version i usually heard started from the (not so) spooky interlude two minutes in. when i got hold of the full track later on, i thought, wait a minute this sounds like the strummings of that eminem track. actually it's not that similar but sort of, anyhow, this is a really good track and bring together mellow rock, cinematic postrock-isms with a touch of hiphop sensability.

this uses the same loop of bassline that was used for haifa wehbe's mosh 3adra 3stanna, altho it's not in the foreground all the time such as in the haifa track. i like both tracks but i prefer this one since the fact that diana can sing an all. diana has a very distinct voice that fooled me hard when i was younger and heard 'ammane' for the first time, i didn't for one second think that she was in her twenties since she had a growly more mature voice. anyhow this was from the 2006 album named simply 'diana 2006'. nice slice of habibi-pop, i really like the synthy bits.

david holmes version of this bigbeat classic doesn't sound like a version of the original at first but the only part he kept was the bassline but he dampened it to a more sleek buzz. added with synth twitterings and his some noodling and a steady slow groove this is a good version. i still love the original over it tho.

file this under guilty pleasures or well not really but still, it has almost every ingredient of cafebar fodder stuff. but i love it anyways, the light spanish vocals, the piano & the trumpet. it's just so easy to swallow that it's hard to resist i think but it does have a good foundation, the bassline is good and the production is crisp.

mate of mine tipped me off on the adult swim/chocolate industries freebie pack after i heard about wylin out. i was a big fan of the rjd2 remix and the original prefuse 73 version but this had me sold directly since of that indian sample. even better use of a hindi sample than truth hurts' addictive which was just plain annoying.

one of 2005's biggest housecuts, full intention took the plucky chinesesounding sample from the original and worked a groove and a serious funky bassline under it and the endresult was banging. i really like the boingy effectthing that they used on the track, the vocals cover it in the main mix but it's more prominent in the dub

this was the main track for the epicly horrible 'batman forever', the soundtrack was nice tho. this had a nice video and featured some of the alter ego's that bono was working during the 'zoo tv' tour, being the fly & macphisto and applying them with the batman comic aestethics, or summat like that. i just liked the video when i was younger for the machine gun thing with the fill in the last coda.

the track itself is a mighty production with heavyweights such as nellee hooper, flood & mark stent behind the knobs. also included is marius de vries for the keys and craig armstrong (who else), for the string arrangement. i think bono takes a bit to many liberties in this, such as the moaning in the end but the edge, vries and armstrong deliver awesomely

the original uses the riff from the rolling stones' 'satisfaction' and janet also references it in a cheeky matter for the hook. it's good but dave navarro and his then bandmates flea & chad smith did a much better work on the track. they made it sound like a jam and got that loose funky feel to it. it was a nice move of bringing flea in since he has knack for getting his bass sounding right and is this is no exception.

megaman 2 is my favourite of the series, probably because it was the first one i played but mostly for the music. i remember humming the metalman theme all the time back in the day, it was so goddamn infectious. when discovering ocremix and all that jazz, i went straight for the megaman games because the melodies was so strong and it lent so easy for modern electronic makeovers.

with this one, ae or alex esquivel molds the quickman theme into a mental breaks rerub with strong links to squarepusher, hybrid and icey. intro with sounds from the original level kicks along and whacks the track into full mode, ripping it up and then going into a nice airy breakdown that works as a calm before the storm before the onslaught of beats that goes off after, the outro is nice aswell

this one is just funky as hell and has an awesome hook. when i first heard aquemini this was the top track, a good way to finish a good album. i liked it most for the chunky guitar but also for the beatswitch into the pianotwiddles for big boi's verse.

i think this is probably one of my favourite trancers of all time, it's got a bit of marino stephano, a bit of tilt's progtrance magic, some nice (but also utter cliched) asian samples and put together awesomely. you don't think it's a remix of dream universe but it's all there if you pay attention. it does use another main melody but stephano's lead is always there in the background backing the main one up. the pads from original are used well in the breakdown and in the coda, where the main lead is given a sly solo spot. it's a well done remix and i still bust it out yet today in sets.
