george michael - fastlove

i'm a kind of person that look besides the bullshit the artists go though/do if they deliver good music yunno, wether it's amy, jacko, pete or george. the older album was a serious revamp of george's sound, the title was really suitable. it had a sense more grownup and even sensual sounds. this essentially is like a deephousey r&b track. the first part is silkysmooth and the second part with the patrice rushen replaying is sublte funk. pure brilliance

modjo - chillin (live)

when i bought my cdsingle of chillin it was essentially just the original and the 'dyrt' rerub, the cdsingle also included a version by derrick carter which was horrendously bad and of course this rendition. now when you think of live versions of house or scratch that dancemusic in general, it's a bad pa consisting of two guys in the back playing on unconnected synths and a singer playing over a dat or cd with either an instrumental or dub. nowadays a pa consists of a laptop with ableton and a guy with big red glowing mask on his head. anyhow, this version has none of that, it is a full on live version with drums, keyboard, guitar, bass, backup singers, the whole nine yards basicly and it's really well done. the reason why it is good is that it isn't trying to redo the original which was a beat and a filtered chic sample. this is mellow and takes it's time and goes for some nice jazzy improv moments.

ramones - havana affair

when i said that this track is essentially blitzkrieg bop with new lyrics a mate of mine told me that the ramones really didn't know how to play their instruments in the beginning so they only knew one chordprogression. this uses the same sarcy/humouros lyrical style as blitzkrieg except this is about a cuban who started working as a spy for the cia, tis immense.

karin krog - meaning of love (herbert remix)

crippled dick hot wax knew what they was doing when they started digging in the archives for lost gems to give some updates too. matthew herbert was the perfect choice to revisit norweigan jazzsinger karin krog's classic 'meaning of love'. herbert splices up key moments of the original track to a lowtempo houser and then adds a low bassline that accuentate the beat and as usual when herberts works with vocals, instead of the things rocked altogether. herbert works parts of karins vocals along the track in perfect harmony of herbert's vision. the endresult is a seriously sexy piece of wonky deephouse.

all saints - black coffee (the neptunes remix)

chad & pharrell's version of black coffee is a sleaker version of the original. the beats are a mixture of triton sounds, compact strings and 808 highlights and terrar aka pusha t of clipse also adds some brief bars to the track. this one is quite underrated, the wideboys remix was top billing for most but this is something to look into.
