what's in a name?

i started this blog originally in 2008 and i had the lyrics of erykah badu's "on and on" and led zeppelin's "kashmir" in my head at the time. the choice was between  "oh let the sun beat down upon my face" or "but they fear us just the same", i picked the latter in the end. there is no meaning to why i selected it and it's just a name.

the format of the blog?

in 2008 the musicblogs such as discobelle and whatnots were all the rage so i wanted to get in on it because i was also opinionated. this was still when blogs were getting in trouble giving out music and certain blogs got shut down because of filesharing so i made it a choice that i wouldn't link to mp3's. unless the artists themselves gave it themselves, i was to not go down that route.

the original blog was sort of disbanded six months or so but i didn't delete it as i thought i was going to pick it up eventually. that happened after my good friend jan henrik started blogging again. i was done with voicing my opinion on discogs or last.fm as i thought i should do this bullshit on my own platform.

focusing on certain tracks were still the idea back in '08 but i did also wrote about tracks i didn't like and took a shit on obvious targets at times. for the relaunch i ditched the idea of negative writing, even though i am well aware that it draws a whole lot more traffic than this. i won't go out of my way to bullshit on the biggest selling track on top 40 but i will point out if there is music that is the same idea but does it better. because i want to promote good music and ignore bad music.

who are you then and why should i care?

i am tony masud, but i use the pen name dub on this blog for no appearent reason, i live in sweden and like music. i'm the worst kind of musicenthusiast as i am a musicnerd and proud of it even though musicnerds are horrible people. don't believe that fact? read high fidelity or see the film. horrible people.

the design of the blog?

concious decision for the stripped down layout, white text on black background. some text is in the shades of blue and gray for the reason it may be stripped down but it isn't monochrome. most of the text will be in lower case with a few selected exceptions. since my writing is what's on the menu henceforth the focus will be on the words. no embedded video clips, no images, no soundcloud widgets or whatnot. bottomline,  nothing of the sort. i use the googleplayer when i need to embed soundclips as i think it's the smoothest.

what tracks do you talk about and how do you select them?

whatever is on my mind. it can be some random dance track that only three persons know off or something that i have heard recently on soundcloud or youtube or bought or even a track i love at that moment. anything. it's attention deficit disorder disguised as eclectism, even though noone is fooled.
(p.s. cheers sykonee for reminding me on putting an answer to this one, it was on my mind but i forgot it when i wrote it)

but it is just a whole load of text, what is the deal?

nothing, this is my output and my thoughts and ideas for certain tracks. if i feel i need to do a summed up history on an artist, i will write that. if i want to talk about something else than the track, i will sidetrack. sometimes i have nothing else substantial to say than "i love this track, i hope you do too". which is the point.

lastly, i have compiled a spotify playlist with all of the tracks that i mention (and is available on spotify, atleast from my end). it is updated every once a while. you can listen to it here

Unasked Question: How do you go about selecting which tune you'll write about next?

oh that's easy. it's whatever is on my mind at that time. very much random selection on that's in my head. i make a concious decision to write about certain ones and hold certain things because i have nothing substantial to say.

like for now i have the f&w remix of safri duo's "all the people in the world" in my head. chances are that an entry about is going to come up.
