the original is a great track and sonically it's a bit different from the stuff on 'black on both sides', it's breakbeat is not the common thing used for hiphop and it's more of a soulful excursion and this really sounded like something that would have been made by zero7 so it wasn't shocking to see that they did a rework. it's a respectful production and does not really alter the groundwork but just add the soundscapes that was heard on the 'simple things'. very smooth & sexy stuff

mhonolink - bagis
nice techno joint from swedish producer mhonolink, this was on the first swedish lesson ep on stjärtlapp. it's a straightforward cut with housey flavour, it doesn't have that much going on but can work wonders in both techno sets and if you slow it down (like i do) and work it in a deeper set where it sits quite nicely.

shpongle - around the world in a tea daze
after 'are you shpongled' the hype was big with simon posford & raja ram's shpongle project. it almost culminated in a feverpitch in 2005 in await for the third album. anyhow, this is the crown jewel of the second album, building up to it in a nice way because this is a 11minute ride in three (actually it's four) parts.
you have a lengthy intro with the quote 'and we can take this huge universe and put it inside a very tiny head, you fold it' repeated in the beginning and building up the meat which has abigail gorton singing latin & hindu phrases in operatic styles accompanying flutes and strings. this builds slowly into the next part which is a big break which slows it all down and brings out a sloweddown sample (used almost wholesale) of turkish song 'dönülmez akşamın ufkundayız' and which then goes into a small bridge heading for the fourth part which has simon & raja removing the halftimebreakbeat for the four on the floor and from there it's just mindfuck.
if i could only describe this track in one word it's 'epic' at it's most epic.

renegade - something i feel
b-side to ray keith & nookie's classic 'terrorist' which was signified by it's piano but this was the grittier side, with vocals chopped from cuba gooding's muchsampled 'happiness is just around the bend'. some dark pads and bells opens this track and kicks it off with the humpty break and some tambs from think and throws out a cutup amen break at key moments

common - the game
this was probably the big standout on common's 2006 album, a gritty boom bap joint produced by none other than kanye west. infact the whole tracks sounds more like something you would expect from premier than yeezy, which is mostly because kanye got primo to do his trademarked cuts for the hook. common delivers well on this one going on oldschool storytelling mode about the hustle in the musicindustry. it's straight rough & bumpin

emma nilsdotter - från mig till dig
heard this one in 2003 in a set by someone i can't remember but it was weird to hear deepfunky house with a swedish vocal. i was intrigued and started looking further, found out that dim put the markus enochson remix in his 'after the playboy mansion' compo, a seriously sexy remix by the way.
after browing the intarweb for more information on this i found that this was made by she did release an album but if i was expecting housey flirts you would was way off. the album is more of a soul, jazz&bossanova flavour with this closing it. mate of mine described this like if a swedish bebel gilberto meets miguel migs, it's a bit off but somewhat close.
finding a sample or all that jazz of the original was hard so here is the markus enochson mix
